Internship opportunity at ACCESS Facility
ACCESS Facility (“ACCESS”) is a global non-profit organization, supporting rights-compatible, interest-based problem solving to prevent and resolve conflicts between companies, communities and governments. Inspired by the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, ACCESS contributes to the implementation of the often overlooked domain of access to non-judicial remedy. ACCESS promotes and supports non-judicial grievance mechanisms as an essential part of the remedy landscape, complementing and supplementing judicial mechanisms.
ACCESS cooperates with The Hague Institute for Global Justice, the Africa Centre for Dispute Settlement, and an international network of professional dispute resolution facilitators.
One of the obstacles to access to effective grievance mechanisms is the lack of information available for business, communities and civil society organizations as to how they function, where they are located, and what supporting resources exist. ACCESS aims to address this obstacle by mapping existing non-judicial grievance mechanisms that deal with company-community conflicts. ACCESS's Database of Grievance mechanisms illustrates the variety of non-judicial grievance mechanisms, provides information about their different procedures, and increases the visibility and accessibility of those grievance mechanisms. ACCESS is seeking assistance with this project and various other activities.
- Assisting with researching national, financial, (multi)industry and company level non-judicial grievance mechanisms dealing with company-community conflicts, drafting summary descriptions of the mechanism's procedures and publishing them on the website;
- Supporting the organization of ACCESS Facility, including preparing agendas for meetings, drafting minutes, and supporting in other organizational tasks;
- Assisting with mapping funding opportunities and drafting proposals;
- Assisting the ACCESS team with outreach activities and other assigned tasks.
- Currently enrolled as a student in international law, international relations, conflict resolution or a related field;
- Demonstrated interest in, and knowledge of the field of business and human rights / (alternative) dispute resolution or corporate social responsibility related topics;
- Fluent written and spoken English is required;
- Experience with communications and outreach is desirable;
- Proactive, independent, and results-oriented;
- Thorough attention to detail.
- A 3 – 6 month internship position, starting in the month January 2016, based on 3 – 4 working days per week at our office in The Hague;
